Shop By Location
Most people turn up here with a place already in mind, and I rather love that. They're not shopping for a photograph, they're after their beach, or the pool they swim laps in, or the bay where they got engaged, so this page splits the whole catalogue that way, and lets you go straight to it.
There are ten locations, and each one is somewhere I've photographed over and over across years, rather than visited once with a coffee in my hand. That's the only way, I think, to get anything worth hanging. The first time you shoot a headland, you come home with the obvious frame that everybody gets. But the fifteenth time, you're standing there on the one morning of the year when the sun lines up with the gap in the rock.
And the people who buy by location are almost always locals, or people who used to be. I get emails from Sydney people living in London who want their old beach on the wall, and there's something about that I find genuinely moving. It's also taught me to check the small things before a print goes out, because those buyers know the place far better than I do (rightly, I should say), and they'll spot a headland that's the wrong shape from across the room.
So if your spot isn't on the list, have a proper look through the ocean pools and the beaches first, since a good deal of this coastline is already covered inside those two, without having a page of its own yet. And if it really is missing, send me a message. I'm out on this coast most mornings anyway.
The photographer
I am Richard Hirst. I have photographed Sydney's harbour, the eastern beaches, the northern beaches and the ocean pools along that coast for more than thirty five years. I shoot at first light and in the weather most people stay inside for. Every photograph on this site is my own.

Represented
YellowKorner carry sixteen of my photographs across their galleries. They describe me as one of Australia's leading landscape photographers. I have also been commissioned by Tourism Australia, Sydney Airport, UBS, LinkedIn and the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation.
The print
Every photograph is printed on ILFORD GALERIE Smooth Pearl 310gsm. Wilhelm Imaging Research rate that paper and ink pairing at more than two hundred years behind glazing. Framed pieces are assembled by hand in Australia and signed by hand on the mattboard.
“Richard Hirst is one of Australia’s leading landscape photographers.”
