Australiana Gifts
A print of the beach somebody swims at every morning is a better gift than it has any right to be. It is specific in a way that a voucher for a department store never manages, and if you pick the right stretch of sand the person receiving it will know exactly which morning you meant.
What is on this page is the work people most often buy for someone else: the images I keep coming back to, and the ones that have sold the most over the years. If you know the beach, that decision is already made for you. If you do not, a gift voucher lets them choose the photograph, the size and the frame themselves, which for a print that is going to hang on a wall for a decade is usually the kinder option.
Everything is printed in Sydney on archival paper and can go unframed in a tube, which travels well if it is heading interstate or overseas, or framed in Tasmanian oak or black if it is staying closer to home.
Browse the whole catalogue in Australian wall art, or narrow it down by water in coastal wall art and the ocean pools.
The photographer
I am Richard Hirst. I have photographed Sydney's harbour, the eastern beaches, the northern beaches and the ocean pools along that coast for more than thirty five years. I shoot at first light and in the weather most people stay inside for. Every photograph on this site is my own.

Represented
YellowKorner carry sixteen of my photographs across their galleries. They describe me as one of Australia's leading landscape photographers. I have also been commissioned by Tourism Australia, Sydney Airport, UBS, LinkedIn and the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation.
The print
Every photograph is printed on ILFORD GALERIE Smooth Pearl 310gsm. Wilhelm Imaging Research rate that paper and ink pairing at more than two hundred years behind glazing. Framed pieces are assembled by hand in Australia and signed by hand on the mattboard.
“Richard Hirst is one of Australia’s leading landscape photographers.”
